Raven Spiratos is based in Tiohtià:ke / “Montreal.” She is currently a Master’s student in Art History at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Charmaine A. Nelson. Her research interests include critical mixed-race theory, Black feminist studies, Black Canadian studies, Canadian slavery studies and African-Canadian Art History. She received her B.A. in Art History from Concordia University in 2018. Her current SSHRC-funded research explores the representation of African-European Canadians from the eighteenth-century onwards with an emphasis on examining fugitive slave advertisements and contemporary art practices.
